Rhombic Contemplations is an encompassing chair designed to view my paintings from. As the audience sits within the chair, noise and distraction is silenced by the form, and the peripherials of the eye have a dim lit light which alters the mood of the painting which is viewed from the chair.
ALLISON'S 01 BILLIARD
Conceptual replica of a billiard room in the artist's childhood home which was destroyed in Houston's Tropical Storm Allison in 2001. Installation was a 20'x15' room built of repurposed wood and consisted of a hand built standard size pool table with ball return, piano, remaining photographs from the flood, and artist's paintings.
Bean Bed is an exploration into the idea of comfort food and its existence as being physical furniture for both the outside body and the intestinal body. Crafted from salvaged redwood and 200 pounds of pinto beans, the layers of beans create a pillow that forms to the shape of any body which lays within it.
The Caal is a multi function sculpture named after the elements Calcium and Aluminum, the key elements in the mineral garnet which served as inspiration for this steel work. The Caal can function as a light fixture, and/or sculpture and is able to sit flat, hang on the wall, or from the ceiling.
The Rustic Rester was built for a client looking for a more backwoods feel to her room. The headboard and frame was built entirely from salvaged wood, and is a platform bed with a towering headboard of various woods from unknown origins.
RUSTIC SHELF FOR THE RESTING
For the same room as the Rustic Rester, the Rustic Shelf for the Resting was built. As the client has an unusual taste for oddities and dead preserved things, the salvaged and unfinished wood compliments all things withering away, and yet still preserved. The shelf uses much of the same wood as was used in the bed, to bring forth the mysticized rustic style of the room.
the Only plants in the quad
The only plants in the quad was a project built alongside the Hyperobject's Garden Group, consisting of Naomi Alpert, Patrick Santos, Negash Andargachew, Esther Cuan, and myself. The planter was built to engage the students at San Francisco Art Institute with the plants in a large area of concrete, and seemlessly no other life than that of the students'. As you can climb it, sit on it, and walk through it, The Only Plants in the Quad helped to bring a new vibrancy to a stale space. Also built entirely out of reclaimed wood.
TRUE NEIGHBORS PLANTER
The True Neighbors Planter is a window planter designed to house both cactus and herbs in one space. Crafted from salvaged redwood, the planter naturally withstands mold, rotting, and insects.
The Rhombic Cabana Propostion
The Rhombic Cabana is a concept model for a private sleeping cabana perfect for nature property and campgrounds. The sleeper fits a standard queen size bed and is equipped with pop up drawers and intricately designed shelving. The futuristic cabana is built for enviro-friendly romance with a plexiglass roof to view the stars.
Shown is a scaled 1"=1' model of the proposition.
